Stylefest is workshop and battle event created specifically for Hip Hop, Street dance and Funk style performers placing an emphasis on the underground dance scene in the UK. Stylefest will allow both specific and non specific dancers to learn, showcase, battle and network in order to improve abilities and their knowledge of both commercial and non-commercial dance styles.
Beginning on Saturday 12th April with open workshops, Stylefest enables both established and non-established dance performers to learn more about a chosen dance style or test the waters with a brand new style. The styles that are taught will enable those that choose to battle to gain a thorough understanding of what the judges in the later event will be looking for.
Battle day on Sunday 13th April begins with the preliminary rounds in order to find the ‘top 8’ dancers to compete in the evening shows. The preliminaries will be done via a circular showcase system and are open for audience to watch. Following the preliminary rounds, there will be a dance 'forum'. This will enable both dancers and non dancers to speak, discuss & debate about the current situations that dancers are facing in the UK and find ways in which we can help to improve the dance community as a whole. A jam session (also known as 'open circle') will then take place so that both competitors and non competitors can have a chance to perform, showcase and network before the final event.
The finals will consist of the ‘top 8’ competitors of each style battling in order to find the number 1 dancer. The evening event will also performances from Boy Blue Ent., Krump Junkies, InDaHouse and Mechanikool P/Carlos specializing in the 4 styles for Stylefest '08.
